Summer has come to a close and it’s the perfect time to get the inside of your building ready for winter. If you have a gymnasium with wood flooring, it’s probably taken a beating this summer, with lots of foot traffic and high usage. Fall is an important time to service your gym floor with a deep cleaning and refinish if needed. And AOA Cleaning & Restoration offers the best gym floor service program in northern New Jersey!
Dusting is a must
Perhaps your janitorial service cleans your gym floor on a regular basis. This is a step in the right direction, because dust is one of the biggest problems we see with gym floors. Dust never goes away—it is created by textile and paper fibers, pollen, human hair, skin cells, and other microscopic materials. When a gym floor gets dusty, it can become slippery and dangerous. Be sure you’re doing the very basics to minimize dust: sweep and dry mop every day, use walk-off mats at every entrance (and vacuum them each day), and if feasible, require that those entering the gym wear clean gym shoes.
What else should you be doing? Have AOA Cleaning & Restoration service your floor regularly. Sealed wood sport courts need to be tacky, not slippery. We achieve this by following the Buckeye Reflections Wood Floor Program. We use Buckeye’s Tenacity Pre-Cleaner, Screen Clean, and Green Light Daily Cleaner.
Refinish if needed
Cleaning is important, but a gym floor with deep scratches or worn-down protective coating might need a refinish. Peeling coating and gouges on the floor can make the floor unsafe for use. If your gym floor needs more than a cleaning, it might be time to refinish it—something we recommend every year or two, depending on the amount of usage. We’ll smooth out the scratches and re-seal to help your floor look brand new again. Again, we like Buckeye’s products. We use their water-based, burnishable coating or oil-based coating if requested.
Disinfect while you’re at it
Last but not least, it’s important to deep-clean your gymnasium thoroughly at least twice a year. Think about it: your gym has a lot of traffic. Germs and bacteria are to be expected, but the good news is that we have state-of-the-art equipment to improve the air quality in your gym and remove harmful bacteria and pollutants. We’re headed into flu season. This is the time to ask us about adding on our Halo deep-clean service to your regular gym floor maintenance.
We use the Halo Disinfection System and products, which are endorsed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. We’re one of the few companies in the country to use the Halo system, which offers whole-room disinfection, combats bacteria and viruses, and is proven to kill 99.9999% of C. diff spores.
